SURVIVAL 101
Trauma is the worst kind of house guest, only it’s one that lives between your ears. It shows up uninvited. It interrupts you at any point during the day. It won’t hesitate to keep you up at night. And unfortunately, it never knows when to leave. Whether you’re living with trauma caused by a sudden loss or tragic events, coping with childhood trauma built up over the years from cruel or absent parenting or being bullied, or, you’re working your way back from some kind of physical trauma, know this:
It’s not your fault. You didn’t ask for this. If you have survived, you did exactly what you had to do. You don’t have to suffer alone or for the rest of your life. And lastly, there are plenty of resources that can help you work through it.
WE CARRY OUR TRAUMA
We all carry burdens no one else can see. Some days, they’re small. Other times, they can be too much to bear. Maybe they were handed down to you as a child, or something bad happened as an adult. No matter who or what caused it if you try to forget it, bury it, hide it, ignore itIt will not leave you alone. Trauma can affect your life, your loved ones, and your friends.
So how can you go from a trauma victim to a brilliant survivor? By using the right people, right tools and treatment and identifying a protector you trust. Or intentionally re-shaping your environment and building new and healthy habits.
